| Q: |

So, what if I don't want to pay you to create my website or manage my marketing? Will you show me how? |
| |
|
|
| A: | |
Consider your business for a moment. When your copier breaks, do you fix it yourself, or do you call the copier repair people? Do you write your own word processing software, or do you buy Microsoft Office or Corel Wordperfect? If you're like most businesspeople, you have a full time job running your business. So why dilute your efforts by adding creation and maintenance of a website to your current workload? I don't know about you, but when I need a special tool or service, I hire it out.
So, why not consider having an experienced professional work with you to create the most cost effective website and internet marketing campaign possible? Call us at 919-554-4625 and let us give you a free estimate, so you can judge for yourself if it's worth it.
However, if you're one of those who like to do it all yourself, then yes, we can help. We can give you consulting on how to layout your site to best showcase your company, give you recommendations on software to use to create your site, and train you on the basics of internet marketing so that you can create a website you'll be proud to call your own.

Isn't the internet a thing of the past? I mean, the dot-coms all died, didn't they? |
| |
|
|
| A: | |
Not even a little bit! The much-publicized 'death' of the dot-coms can be attributed to poor business planning. No business, online or off, can survive selling product at below cost. Such companies, most without a 'brick and mortar' business presence, relied on advertisers to make a profit. Unfortunately, this business model didn't work out.
There are over 2 billion websites on the internet today. Advertising on the internet has been increasing over the last year, taking away business from the ‘brick and mortar’ world. The internet has changed the way the world communicates. The Fortune 1000 has continued to invest heavily in their internet presences. If the internet were dying, they wouldn’t be.
Can you afford *not* to consider using the internet to bring business in? If your competition is using the web, then you have no choice. It's a lead, follow or get the heck out of the way world these days, and you have to work to get and keep your clientele.

So, what about these places that send me e-mail saying they'll submit me to 2,500 search engines for $39.95? Should I do that? |
| |
|
|
| A: | |
There are only 8-10 search engines you really need to concern yourself with. They handle about 98% of the searches performed on the internet. Those
e-mails touting '2,500 search engines for $39.95' are going to submit you to FFA (Free For All) sites. This won't get you listed on the search engines,
and will definitely get you a lot of spam. Don't waste your time and money. You'll get tons of junk mail, and very little benefit.
What you want is a carefully considered, well designed, content-rich website. That should be submitted to the major search engines. You should also back that up with your website address on everything you can think of, i.e. your business cards, your signage, your window, your vehicle, and anything else you can think of. Couple that will a well-written e-mail signature, and good links, and you can drive a reasonable amount of traffic to your site, without spending big bucks on online advertising.

| Q: |
|
So which search engines should I be concerned with? |
| |
|
|
| A: | |
Well, the first thing to know is that there are search engines, and directories. Google is a search engine, and handles around 25% of all searches performed. Yahoo, on the other hand, is a directory. Google uses 'spiders', small computer programs, to crawl around the internet and find new web sites. Yahoo requires a manual submission and
payment of $299/year to gain and keep an entry. However, they also display results from other search engines, so a high listing in Google will often gain you a high listing in Yahoo. One of my sites, Gotmead.com, is #2 for the word 'mead' on both. In addition, there is the Open Directory, which supplies results to MSN, AOL, and several other large sites that have searches. There is also the pay-per-click sites like Overture, Looksmart and Google Ad words in which you can bid for keyword phrases to gain prominence. [BACK TO TOP]
